Up and up Rei ran. Stair after stair she climbed as her rusted joints screamed in protest.

 

Voices echoed from below as bullets ripped holes through the stairways.

 

After an eternity of climbing, Rei emerged upon the top of the world.

A powerful light shown brightly through the hazy sky.

 

Rei spread her wings to embrace the light's warmth.

 

Home...

Rei smiled.

"YOU HAVE NOWHERE LEFT TO RUN!!!" cried a voice.

"NON-HUMANS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO EXIST!! STAND AND PREPARE FOR JUSTICE!!"

 

Rei smiled at the odd figures and turned towards the edge.

The light invited her to join it.

Rei spread her wings and stepped off....

 

Rei was home.
